Applecross Couple Use Design Flair To Create Picture Perfect Home

12 June 2021

When John and Lisa Burych embarked on an overhaul of an Applecross home, little did they realise the overwhelming interest their handiwork and eye for detail would attract.

The couple purchased the quaint cottage style property at 36 Gairloch Street, Applecross in 2018 for just over $2 million and took up a six-month challenge tapping into their flair for creative design to create a sleek, contemporary residence with large, spacious family areas.

“The home was originally an English style home, which was neat, tidy and cosy. The layout was good and it had a beautiful flow, but the style and finishings were dated and in need of an overhaul to bring it into today’s style,” Lisa said.

With a passion for interior design, Lisa took the lead in project managing the renovation, guided by a strong team of tradespeople who helped make the couple’s vision a reality.

“I have a keen eye for styling and really enjoy watching my creative vision come to life,” she said. “I am grateful to have a team of tradespeople who bring positive energy to every project as well as fantastic results.”

One of the biggest challenges was the removal of a major supporting wall which had divided the original kitchen and dining room. Extracting the wall improved the overall feel and flow of the house, creating a larger family space and an extra large kitchen.

A more neutral interior palette coupled with travertine flooring and stunning cornice work fostered a modern, yet classic vibe, while the swimming pool and timber-lined cabana are akin to a resort.

The final result is a sleek, spacious, picture perfect, contemporary four bedroom abode, which has just been sold off-market by Mont Property for $3 million.

“It just has such a beautiful feel,” Lisa said. “We were lucky enough to call this project home for 2.5 years although I would love to stay much longer. It’s a really lovely home to live in, it actually feels like you’re on holiday so it’s bittersweet to be moving.”

Fuelled by the success of Gairloch Street, the couple has started another property transformation in Applecross and are also embarking upon other developments in the area.

Mont Managing Director Matthew Podesta said the success and widespread appeal of the Burych’s extraordinary renovation was evident when the property sold off-market to a local buyer in May before the listing was even advertised.

“John and Lisa’s incredible renovation of 36 Gairloch Street, Applecross has breathed new life into what was a comfortable family home, taking it to the next level,” Mr Podesta said.

“Their eye for detail, appreciation of quality craftsmanship and impeccable interior design skills have proven a recipe for success.

“We’re delighted to have worked with John and Lisa on the sale of their home and look forward to seeing the results of their next project and working with them in the future.”
