Melville’s best Christmas lights displays

18 December 2021

The magic of Christmas is alive and well in the City of Melville, with residents illuminating their homes in dazzling lighting displays.

From the delicate twinkle of fairy lights to full installations accompanied by music, families have turned festive, with some of the most eye-catching and downright out-of-the-box Christmas lighting displays right here in our own neighbourhood.

Here are some of the best local homes to put on a show.

72B McCallum Cres, Ardross
Created by a self-confessed “tech nerd” and synced to music with “singing Christmas trees”, this Ardross display makes an impact with more than 3000 lights, a projector and specialised computer controller. There are five singing decorations, which are synced to music that is broadcast on speakers as well as via the FM radio station listed out the front.

11 Curruthers Rd, Mount Pleasant
Inspired by the cult festive flick National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, this illuminating display has gone next level with an incredible experience that includes accompanying music broadcast through your car radio. The owner’s annual obsession started with a single strand of lights to decorate his parents’ house and each year has added more and more. Now, almost 30 years later, he transforms his own home into a dazzling display with more than 10,000 lights, eight Christmas trees (including an 8m high computerised tree and four singing Christmas trees), three reindeer and five Santas.

58A Lamond Street, Alfred Cove
A Christmas lighting display with homemade spacecraft – yes, you read it right!

This Christmas lights enthusiast has stepped up their game to compete with the neighbours, blasting into the festive season with a huge Star Destroyer and Millennium Falcon. For the Star Trek fans there’s a USS Enterprise and Borg Cube.

2C Gimber Way, Melville
This one is all for the kids. The family of four who created this stunning display love sharing Christmas cheer each year through their sensational light show. The impressive scene has been a stop on the local Christmas light circuit for three years and takes more than 40 hours to set up, stretching from rooftop lights to illuminated reindeers and inflatable characters.

8 Stubbs Pl, Booragoon WA
In a galaxy far, far away… well, in suburban Booragoon, is a Christmas lighting display that is literally out of this world. Melding Star Wars features including Darth Vader and an escort Tie Fighter, with a running river theme and a driveable cardboard replica Tesla CyberTruck, this eclectic spectacle is astounding visitors. The owners are advocates of electric vehicles and are fundraising for The Big Lap Has Gaps, a crowdfunding initiative that aims to raise $150,000 towards installing fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles along the 720km remote highway between WA and South Australia.

613 Canning Highway, Alfred Cove
A long-time stalwart of Christmas light displays, this home holds prime position on busy Canning Highway and is well known in our community for spreading festive cheer each year.  In previous years, the display has also included a magical miniature village, which could be viewed through the front window.

Perth Christmas Light Trail
And don’t forget, the city’s Christmas Light Trail through Northbridge, the CBD and Elizabeth Quay is on until January 2 with 26 festive installations. The city lights up between 6pm and 11pm, with roving entertainers and music on Friday and Saturday nights.
