TIME Magazine names Fremantle as one of the world’s top 50 travel destinations
Right on our doorstep, our favourite port city – Fremantle – has long been loved by locals.
Now, it has been named one of the world’s 50 greatest places to travel by TIME Magazine, rubbing shoulders with some of the most astounding global spectacles, including the Galapagos Islands, beautiful Boracay Island in The Philippines; and the dazzling city of Doha, Qatar which is opening 100 new hotels to cater for the 2022 World Cup.
Fremantle is just one of two Australian places to make the list, published in the leading US magazine, alongside the Great Barrier Reef.
TIME identified Fremantle as a great place to “eat, drink and be Aussie”.
“After nearly 700 days of pandemic shutdown, the Australian port city of Fremantle is bustling with food and drink openings,” the listing stated.
It cited the new city centre Walyalup Koort, which is part of a $270 million redevelopment, the transformation of the 1899 Courthouse into a vibrant bar and Gage Roads’ iconic 1500-capacity brewery in a harbour-front 100-year-old warehouse.
Mont Property Managing Director Matthew Podesta said it was not surprising to see how loved Fremantle is, but TIME’s endorsement took the port city’s standing to the next level.
“How lucky are we to live on the doorstep of such a vibrant and happening hub?” Mr Podesta said. “Locals have long known how special Fremantle is, but this acknowledgement is next level – especially on a global scale.
“It’s no surprise that tourists love to visit Fremantle for its history, eateries and eclectic appeal, and we’re seeing more and more people wanting to make the move permanently to live closer to our port city.”
The list of the World’s Greatest Places of 2022 was compiled from nominations from TIME’s international network of correspondents and contributors, with an eye to offering new and exciting experiences.
