ANZAC Day 2022: Where to commemorate locally
Several ANZAC Day commemoration services will go ahead in our neighbourhood this year after being impacted by COVID restrictions in recent years.
Several local sub-branches of the Returned and Services League of WA will host dawn services and memorial events on Monday, April 25 to remember lost, fallen and returned service people.
The Driveway Dawn Service, which was inspired by the 2020 COVID lockdowns, will continue this year. The RSLWA encourages West Australians to gather on driveways across the state as an ANZAC Day tribute. Radio 94.5 and Triple M Radio Network will broadcast a live Dawn Service from 5.55am.
In addition, we’ve compiled a list of local ANZAC Day events for those who want to attend in person.

AFL Fremantle v Carlton: Len Hall Tribute
The 25th annual Len Hall Tribute match will take place at 5.40pm on Saturday, April 23, providing an opportunity to honour Australia’s servicemen, servicewomen and veterans at Optus Stadium ahead of ANZAC Day.
The name Len Hall (1897–1999) has been synonymous with Fremantle Football Club’s annual ANZAC tribute game since 1996, with Hall known to many as Western Australia’s last surviving Gallipoli veteran.
Hall played a crucial role in three great battles during World War I. He was a machine gunner at Gallipoli, he rode in the Light Horse Brigade of the Desert Mounted Corps in the capture of Beersheba, Palestine, in 1917; and rode with Colonel Thomas E Lawrence – known as Lawrence of Arabia – to liberate Damascus in 1918.
Participants are asked to gather at RSL Memorial Hall in Kintail Road, Applecross for a Dawn Service hosted by the Applecross RSL. The service commences at 5.30am and will be followed by a ‘gunfire breakfast’ of bacon and eggs.
